For years, I kept my epilepsy private. I hid my seizures, my injuries, my fears, and my struggles from the world. I worried about being judged, pitied, or seen as weak. I worried that sharing my story would make me vulnerable in ways I wasn’t ready to handle. And for a long time, that fear kept me silent.
But the truth is, hiding doesn’t make life easier. It only isolates you further. Living with epilepsy is challenging enough without feeling like you have to carry it alone. At some point, I realized that the only way to reclaim my power and purpose was to share my story openly.
Opening up publicly wasn’t easy. It meant acknowledging the things I had tried to minimize or forget: the seizures, the falls, the injuries, the hospital visits, and the emotional toll of living with a chronic condition. It meant letting the world see my vulnerability, my fear, and my humanity. It meant risking judgment, misunderstanding, and unwanted attention.
But it also meant freedom. Sharing my story allowed me to speak my truth without shame. It allowed me to connect with others who were experiencing similar struggles. It allowed me to turn my pain into purpose — to create a platform where people with epilepsy could feel seen, heard, and understood.
Since I began speaking openly, the impact has been profound. People have reached out to tell me they feel less alone because they see someone living openly with epilepsy. Some have found courage to share their own experiences. Others have been inspired to take control of their lives despite the challenges they face. Knowing that my story can empower and support others has been life-changing.
Being public about my epilepsy has also helped me grow personally. It has forced me to confront my fears, embrace my resilience, and redefine what it means to live with a disability. I’ve learned that strength is not about hiding struggles — it’s about facing them head-on, sharing them, and finding meaning in the journey.
Today, My Epilepsy Journey is more than a platform — it’s a mission. It’s a place where stories are shared, support is given, and understanding is fostered. And it stands as a reminder that speaking your truth, no matter how difficult, is one of the most powerful steps you can take toward healing, connection, and empowerment.
Opening up publicly was not a choice made lightly. It was a choice made out of courage, purpose, and hope. And it has transformed not only my life but the lives of many others who now know they are not alone.
